Hi,
Does anyone have any info on John Taylor? I know he had a son Joseph Taylor. On the 1887 Santee census it has man- Isaac Tuttle-40......nephew-Joseph Taylor-18......Grandmother-Mary Tuttle-62, I was wondering if there is a connection between Mary Tuttle and John Taylor. Like were they married or was John Taylor, Mary Tuttle's son? Any help on this would be great!
Thanks, Debbie

hey john flute: I searched Ancestry for Joseph Tuttle based on the 1884 Census data and came up with nothing. However, I was able to find Mary tuttle at Age 80, living with her sister alice Stone Age,age 65 , brother Baptiste Whipple age 29, and a grandchild Herbert(sp) age 23), in the 1900 US Census forSantee,Knox,Ne.alice Stone was listed as the Head of the household. to me it looks like Alice and Mary were Whipples before they married. You will want to check out the Censuses for Knox County, starting with the 1870 Census and look for either Mary Whipple or Mary Tuttle.

Hello, I'm new to the site and I was going through old postings so I can get a better understanding of this site. I know this message was posted in October but did you and Sara decide that your ancestor was or was not William Columbus. I hope he was because quite a few Westons just got approved because of William Columbus. Good Luck and God Bless. Santee1961

My indes has a card for Mary Tuttle, d/o John C. and Ellen Tuttle,who was married at least thrice: No. 1 was John Taylor. No children from this union. No2: Joseph Henry, they were wed Oct. 25, 1923 at Santee. They separated in1927. No. 3 was Louis/Lewis Walker, son of Joseph and Louisa Walker. They were wed 3-16-1937 by Indian Custom.she was with him when he died Nov. 20,1938 at Santee. If this is the one called Maggie Tuttle, then she was also married to Frank Trudell,s/o Francis Trudell and Mary Iciyapewin, before she married John Taylor

This is what I know....
Maggie Tuttle-Trudell married John Taylor they had Joseph. They later divorced, Maggie remarried Frank Trudell. Joseph is listed with Mary Tunkannahowin. I guess the question would be is Tunkannahowin Joseph's grandmother or great grandmother.
Please keep in mind that John and Ellen had daughters named Maggie and Mary also. I believe they were named after these two particular ladies.

wazi: I am not disputing what you have. I also have the Probate papers on Louis Walker, which and they back up what I posted re. John Taylor.she must have been pregnant with the child when she and John Taylor were separated. Here is what has me puzzled: The Margaret (Maggie )Tuttle listed as the spouse of Frank Trudell, at www.familysearch.com has Tataibobdu and Tunkannokonwin listed as her parents, which is confirmed by the 1902 Register of Santee Indian Families. The marriage certificate for her and Frank Trudell, lists her parents as John Tuttle and Margaret Tuttle. Were there more than 2 John Tuttles?

Hermin;
Maggie Tuttle-Trudell was born in or around 1848. Isaac Tuttle the elder brother of John Tuttle was born in 1844. John C. Tuttle was born in 1857 or 59. We have yet to find another John Tuttle other than his children and grandchildren. Does this mean he doesn't exist, probably not.
Mary Tunkannahowin is listed with Isaac Tuttle as the head of the household and so is Joseph Taylor. On some of the census records it states Tunkannhowin, Mary Tunkannhowin and Mary Tuttle, Indian name Tunkannahowing. What does that mean, I don't know.
Take care,
wazi

wazi I will take a stab aat a guess.Isaac Tuttle is the Head of the household in the 1887 Census. Joseph Taylor is listed as nephew,ergo Isaac must be his uncle. which means that their parents are siblings. if Mary is the grandmother to Isaac, wouldn't she also be Joseph Taylor's grandmother,as well?

wazi: you are a peach for straightening this out for me. I can understand why I was confused now. The censuses that my records start with are the 1884 Census. That would explain why I couldn't find Margaret Tuttle in John and Ellen Tuttle's household. Plus the BIA screwed up again as they have with other probates. They had listed Mary as having been married to John Taylor and that they separated, without issue(meaning children). I also was not aware that she and Frank Trudell had been married befoere she marrried John Taylor. Thanks so much for your help.

Hermin;
Mary Tuttle, the one in which you speak about, was married to Joseph Henry. They had one child Isaac Henry who died a young child. She divorced Joseph and later married Louis Walker.
Maggie Tuttle married John Taylor first and then married Frank Trudell.
